Currently the Association Montessori Internationale is working on an ambitious programme to offer schools worldwide mentorship, support and accreditation. The pilot project will be rolled out in the USA in 2018 to be followed after that in other countries.


AMI training programmes are delivered in a traditional setting that nurtures personal contact with the training staff and fellow students. Many course programmes also offer webcast seminars that deal with specific areas of training. AMI is currently exploring further options in respect of electronic platforms.

You need:

  • An AMI Diploma (For 0-3 and 6-12 you must also have primary)
  • a minimum of five years teaching experience, at least two of which are consecutive, in an infant/toddler community where the Montessori principles and practice are fully implemented
  • a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
  • membership of AMI
  • a classroom observation visit by someone appointed by the Training Group

The diploma issued by AMI is identical throughout the world, according to the level followed (0-3; 3-6; 6-12). In some countries, national, or regional educational authorities may request additional qualifications.

Setting up a training centre/AMI course is subject to the submission and approval of a Feasibility Study. The AMI feasibility handbook contains all the details, requirements and timeframe involved.
